Mwezeshe Foundation Launches with Successful Fundraiser, Raising Nearly $8,000 to Empower Young Girls in Tanzania
Two weeks ago, the Mwezeshe Foundation celebrated its official launch with a heartfelt and impactful fundraiser event in Brooklyn, New York. The evening brought together a vibrant community of supporters who share a passion for empowering young girls in Tanzania through education and mentorship.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of attendees, the foundation raised nearly $8,000 that night. These funds will go directly toward launching the first round of scholarships, which will support at least three young girls in Tanzania. These scholarships will cover school fees and essential resources, providing these bright students with the opportunity to focus fully on their education and pursue their dreams.
About the Mwezeshe Foundation
The Mwezeshe Foundation, founded by Huba Mduda, is a philanthropic organization dedicated to empowering teenage girls in Tanzania by addressing systemic barriers to education and success. The foundation’s mission is rooted in the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to reach her full potential, regardless of her financial circumstances or background.
The Swahili word “mwezeshe” means “to empower,” and the foundation embodies this ethos by creating opportunities for girls to thrive academically and personally. Through a combination of scholarships, mentorship, and holistic support, Mwezeshe aims to nurture a new generation of confident, educated African leaders poised to transform their communities.
Programs and Vision
One of the cornerstone initiatives of the foundation is the Mwezeshe Scholars Program, which provides scholarships to cover school fees and resources for deserving students who otherwise could not afford an education. Starting next year, the program will support 10 girls annually, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.
In addition to financial aid, the foundation offers mentorship programs to help girls better understand themselves, build confidence, and focus on their personal and academic goals. Career panels and volunteer opportunities allow professionals to share their experiences, inspire the girls, and provide guidance as they plan their futures.
“Our goal is not just to educate these girls, but to empower them to lead with confidence and resilience,” said Huba Mduda, founder of the Mwezeshe Foundation. “This is about creating a ripple effect—where one empowered girl goes on to transform her family, her community, and beyond.”
Looking Ahead
The funds raised at the launch event mark the beginning of a larger mission to close the opportunity gap for young girls in Tanzania. The foundation is calling on supporters to continue contributing to this important cause, as every donation helps provide life-changing opportunities.
“Congratulations on your amazing fundraising event! You worked so hard and made a big difference—I’m so proud of you! Your kindness and dedication inspire everyone around you. Well done, my beautiful young daughter.
Love you deep.
